Statement on: Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization
Students for Action Focused Empowerment (SAFE) is deeply troubled by the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This ruling makes our country less safe for all pregnant people, particularly those from marginalized and low-income backgrounds. This will have a direct and lasting impact on our community as people will lose access to safe abortions under Utah’s trigger law. SAFE is committed to taking action to support reproductive justice and for the funding of resources on campus that will support all who are impacted by this ruling. We will continue sharing updates about what we are doing and how you can get involved.
This ruling is unmistakably a step backward for reproductive justice and affects the resources available, but there is still important support available in the community. The Utah Abortion Fund is accepting donations that will provide resources to those in our state who now must travel out-of-state to seek reproductive care (utabortionfund.org). Free pleasure packs that contain contraceptives can be picked up at multiple locations on campus (wellness.utah.edu/safersex/).
